Living it, forgetting it and remembering it again

Women refer to it often; how we have a sort of selective memory about childbirth and the months afterward. I am guilty of this claim too. But I wonder, do we really forget? We may lose direct touch with those visceral emotions and physical sensations but I think we still have them stored in our memory - and they are crystal clear.

If you ask any person who has birthed a baby, they will tell you as many specifics as you are willing to hear! It is a transformative experience, no matter how it went - whether according to plan or completely awry or some muddled place in the middle. If we allow more space for telling these stories and processing the details of such a monumental event, it would serve us all better.

The After Birth is a place to discuss and honor childbirth experiences and the transition into and through the postpartum period; the emotional, the humorous, the painful, the joyous — it’s all part of it.
