What will my visits look like?

Daytime support

The beauty of this relationship is that I cater to your needs in the postpartum period. In our prenatal visit we will discuss any particular needs that you anticipate and put a plan in place to address them once baby is home. We will also continually evaluate as we work together once you have brought your baby home and adjust things as necessary. A visit in your home might include (but is not limited to) the following:

  • diapering and bathing baby

  • working with you on how to swaddle your baby

  • practice loading baby in and out of the car seat and stroller

  • experiment with baby wearing options

  • troubleshoot any feeding challenges

  • hold/watch baby so you can take a shower or a nap

  • make a few meals

  • wash dishes in the sink/load the dishwasher

  • laundry

  • allow you space and time for some self-care

In hospital (postpartum) support

You might also appreciate my support while in the hospital, after your child has been born. Whether you’ve experienced a vaginal or surgical birth, you will be in recovery. This is a time with a steep learning curve for you (and your partner). You might find that having an extra set of knowledgeable hands, proves very comforting and helpful!

Overnight support

If you are interested in my support overnight, my responsibilities include:

  • Caring for your newborn throughout the night; tending to their needs when they wake up. If breastfeeding, I will bring the baby to mom for a feed during the night. If bottle fed, I will prepare the bottle (whether pumped milk or formula) and feed the baby. If mom is pumping at all, I will help facilitate that process.

  • Washing bottles (if used) and prepping/bottling formula.

  • Doing the baby’s laundry.

  • I am also there as a support to mom, should she want that during the night at any point. Sleep might be the priority in which case we will typically only interact upon my arrival.

  • If requested, I will provide suggestions for success in feeding and sleep.

  • I will always use safe sleep methods (baby sleeps in a bassinet or crib, swaddled or not, depending on parents’ preferences).

  • A shift is considered 10p-6a unless otherwise agreed upon.

  • Once all responsibilities are met, I will expect a comfortable place to rest that is within close proximity to the baby.

We will first go over my contract/service agreement together and make sure you and your partner are on board for lining up my support. How long I work with you depends a lot on how things are going for you all! The general consensus is that the first 12 weeks postpartum are the most critical for establishing a healthy and happy home that includes your new baby. I will anticipate working with you for that amount of time. The frequency of my visits might taper off as we go but this is entirely up to you. I ask that we have good communication surrounding your needs, as you figure them out.

Daytime support

My hourly rate for daytime support visits is $40.

I require a $250 deposit at our first prenatal meeting. This non-refundable deposit ensures my availability and also demonstrates your commitment to me. A portion of the deposit will be applied to my support at the end of our time together.

Overnight support

My hourly rate for overnight support visits is $50.

I require a $1000 deposit for this service. That amount will be applied to my first twenty hours (just under 3 visits).

Gift Certificates available! What better way to dote on an expectant mom or parent than to gift them some help after baby comes home! This could be an especially gratifying gift for grandparents-to-be who live farther afoot. Please consider that the personal connection between me and my client is of the utmost importance. If you are thinking of purchasing a gift certificate for someone, please contact me and I am happy to speak with you so you feel confident in gifting my postpartum doula services.
